This 7/32″ galvanized 7×19 aircraft cable is a flexible, fatigue-resistant steel cable designed for a wide variety of rigging, railing, pulley, and winching applications. Its high strand count and smaller individual wires allow it to bend easily while maintaining strength, making it a popular choice for deck railing systems, exercise equipment, control cables, and general-purpose industrial use.
Note: Despite the name, aircraft cable is not intended for aircraft use. Consult a qualified rigging professional before using this cable in overhead lifting or other critical load-bearing applications.
The 7×19 construction provides excellent flexibility and fatigue resistance compared to many traditional wire rope configurations. The smaller wires within each strand allow the cable to bend repeatedly without premature failure, making it ideal for applications involving pulleys, sheaves, and continuous movement.
Aircraft cable is commonly selected when flexibility is a higher priority than the abrasion resistance typically associated with larger wire rope constructions.
Aircraft cable is generally available in diameters up to 3/8″, while traditional wire rope is available in much larger sizes, often exceeding 2″ in diameter. The higher strand count and smaller wires found in aircraft cable provide increased flexibility and smoother handling characteristics.
This aircraft cable is manufactured using IPS-grade steel. IPS (Improved Plow Steel) is a widely used steel grade that provides dependable strength and durability for general-purpose cable applications.
The class of this cable is 7×19. In aircraft cable construction, these numbers refer to the total number of strands, including the core strand, and the approximate number of wires within each strand. A 7×19 construction consists of six outer strands wrapped around a seventh strand core, with approximately 15-26 wires making up each strand.
The hot-dip drawn galvanizing process provides superior corrosion resistance compared to bright steel cable while maintaining full cable strength. Unlike some standard galvanization methods that can reduce break strength, the drawn galvanizing process preserves the cable’s performance characteristics.
This finish also improves ductility and helps prevent coating flaking or cracking, providing long-lasting protection in outdoor and moisture-prone environments.
